Frequently asked questions
Playing with friends on Wi-Fi
How do I play with friends in the same room?
Connect every phone or tablet to the same Wi-Fi network (or to one phone's hotspot), and make sure everyone has the same version of the game. One player taps HOST A PARTY. Everyone else sees the party appear on their Home screen and taps JOIN PARTY, or joins with the 4-digit room code. Up to 8 players can play in one room, and no internet connection is needed.
The room doesn't show up on my iPhone or iPad. How do I join?
Finding rooms on iPhone and iPad is new, so if the room doesn't appear, join by the host's address: the host's room shows it under the room code (OR BY IP: 192.168...). Open ALL MODES > WI-FI > JOIN WITH CODE, tap BY IP and type that address. For a private room, the game then asks for the room's 4-digit code too.
Can we play on the same team?
Yes, even just the two of you: set the room to FRIENDS VS BOTS (in the room's RULES, turn TEAMS on and set SIDES to FRIENDS VS BOTS, or pick CO-OP under HOST A ROOM). Everyone in the room is on one side and bots take the other, sized for a fair fight. With SIDES on MIXED, the room splits people over both teams instead.
My friends don't show up. What can I try?
- Check that every device is on the same Wi-Fi network (not one on Wi-Fi and one on mobile data).
- iPhone / iPad: allow local network access: Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network > turn on Stickbash. iOS asks this the first time; if you tapped "Don't Allow", turn it on there. If the room still doesn't appear, join by the host's address (see above).
- Guest networks, office, hotel and school Wi-Fi often block devices from seeing each other. Try a home network, or turn on a phone's hotspot and connect the other devices to it.
- Make sure everyone has the same version of the game. A device on another version shows up with UPDATE.
- Still stuck? Ask the host to read out the room code and use JOIN WITH CODE.
Does Wi-Fi play use my mobile data?
No. Wi-Fi play talks only to the devices on your local network.
Online play
Who am I playing against online?
Online matches may include AI players. In this version, online matches are played against AI-controlled opponents, so there is always someone to fight at any time of day. To play against real friends, use a Wi-Fi party.
Why are online modes greyed out?
Online modes, ranked play and the shop's purchases need an internet connection. Without one you'll see NO SIGNAL!; Training, VS Bots, Practice and Wi-Fi parties still work.
I lost my connection in the middle of an online match.
The game waits a few seconds for the connection to come back. If it doesn't, the match ends and your rank is not changed.
Your game and progress
Do I need an account?
No. There's no sign-up and no login.
Where is my progress saved?
On your device. Uninstalling the game (or clearing its storage) deletes your progress, and this version has no cloud backup, so a new phone starts fresh.
How do I change my name, avatar or country?
Tap your avatar at the top left of the Home screen to open your Profile, then tap the part you want to change.
How do I change the controls?
Settings > Controls lets you pick a control style, move and resize every button and change its opacity.
Can I change how the game looks?
Yes: Settings > Theme switches between SPOTLIGHT and COMIC. Fights look the same in both.
Blood, age and content
Who is Stickbash for?
Players 13 and older. It has cartoon stick-figure fighting with weapons and optional blood effects.
Can I turn the blood off?
Yes. Settings > Gameplay > BLOOD + GORE turns off blood splats and the more graphic knock-out effects; cartoon dust and sparks are used instead.
Purchases and ads
Do purchases cost money?
Not in this version. Purchases in the shop are test purchases: nothing is charged and no payment details are asked for.
What are the "Test Ad" banners?
They are placeholders that show where ads will appear. This version has no ad network: the placeholders show nothing from advertisers and don't track you. Ads never appear during a fight.
Notifications
How do I turn reminders on or off?
The game asks before sending any reminders (at most one a day). To change your answer, open your device's Settings > Notifications > Stickbash.
Privacy
What data does Stickbash collect?
None reaches us. Your profile and progress stay on your device, and your fighter's name and look are shared only with devices on your Wi-Fi when you play together. Read the full Privacy Policy at stickbash.howincloud.com/privacy.
How do I delete my data?
Uninstall the game, or clear its storage (Android: Settings > Apps > Stickbash > Storage > Clear storage). Nothing is kept anywhere else.
